Excessive Dusting
Run-out, Heavy Vibration, Worn Bearings, Inaccurate Depth Settings, Excessive Side Pressures, Cut Point Not Properly Supported, Excessive Cant Angle, Poor Blade Regrinding, Wrong Overspeed.

Frayed Edges
Run-out, Heavy Vibration, Inaccurate Depth Settings, Excessive Side Pressures, Cut Point Not Properly Supported, Excessive Cant Angle, Poor Blade Regrinding.

Cracked Edges or Tears
Inaccurate Depth Settings, Cut Point Not Properly Supported, Tension Problems, Wrong Overspeed.

Annular Rings on Roll Edges
Run-out, Excessive Blade Depth.

Serrated Upper (Top) Blades
Run-out, Excessive Side Pressures, Inaccurate Depth Setting, Poor Blade Regrinding.

Short Blade Life
Run-out, Excessive Cant Angle, Excessive Side Pressure, Heavy Vibration, Excessive Blade Depth, Excessive Overspeed.

Interrupted Slitting
Run-out, Worn Bearings, Nicked Blades, Not Enough Side Pressure.

What is Run-Out ?
Run-out in shear slitting is a common occurrence and can cause most of the above problems. Run-out can result from the following conditions:

  • Debris between the mounting hubs and blades
  • Inner diameter (ID) of blades is too large
  • Worn hub bearings
  • Out-of-round blades
  • Warped blades
  • Bent blades or hubs
